katy & devin’s paris engagement

devinkatyblog-1-of-41

Is it just me, or does everyone have that Instagram couple they totally crush on?

I couldn’t help but adore Katy and Devin from a distance (it’s not weird that we’d never met before, this is the 90s you guys): their sweet posts about each other, their gorge DC brick loft that they seem to always be lounging in with perfect style, and Ace, their adorable pup who looks just like ours so I might be a little biased. Point being: I was in insta-love.

So when Katy DMed us to say that we would be overlapping in Paris by 36 hours, of course I leapt at the chance to put a double date on the calendar. But it got way better way fast: Devin DMed us later that day, with a full plan to propose to his sweet boo-thang, and wondered if we might be available to shoot it on such a short stop in the City of Lights?

Cue angel singing. My fantasy of shooting these DC dreamboats was about to come true!

An hour before the shoot, the Parisian skies completely opened up in a thunderous downpour. For anyone else this might have been a mood-killa, but Devin and Katy showed up with huge smiles, didn’t mind getting their hair wet, and turned the rainstorm into a total gift from France because we HAD PARIS TO OURSELVES. No passersby, no other tourists, nobody crazy enough to brave the weather except these two sweeties and the ring burning a hole in Devin’s pocket.

She said yes right as the sun peeked back out and the guards were closing the Jardins du Luxembourg for the day. I’m not crying, you’re crying. And now my Instagram crushes are our real-life friends: the City of Lights just keeps on giving.

Ugh. Instagram captions. What the hell?

I've spent countless moments of my life staring at a blank instagram caption box. Try something - delete it. Put a quote in there - delete it. But I had a secret weapon... I'd just hand the phone to my wife. She's is a witty and wise firestorm of a woman and I love her for it. Apparently, so does instagram. Her irreverent, meandering, and poignant-as-hell captions have created a sense of community in our lives so that everywhere we travel, there’s usually someone willing to show us around (not to mention insta alone has literally put thousands of dollars in our bank account). So I made her sit down and explain what goes through her curly little head whenever her thumbs click away at her phone keyboard. Put your email below for her free guide on how to write insta captions that people actually care about and make the whole process (dare we say it) fun.. -Tim
