travel guide:

lisa & nick// whidbey island winery wedding

Our first stop: Toby’s Tavern. You walk in, get ignored by the waitresses, find your seat across from the bar that you swear dates back to the 1800s and before you know it, you’ve got a pound of fresh mussels, some garlic bread, and a cold beer as you watch the waves slowly roll in out the window. Whidbey Island is one of our favorite places on earth. The first time we visited, we stayed at the Captain Whidbey Inn, an old settler hotel dating back to the early 1900s. Its giant fire place and small rooms have a rustic old world charm that make me want to eat all the oysters that Penn Cove (right off the back door of the inn) has to offer. Coupeville, once upon a time, rivaled Seattle in terms of size… Granted, both cities were in the hundreds at the time BUT STILL. Whidbey’s got some history is the point.

And almost from the start, that history included the Erickson family. They’ve had land on the island for generations. So Lisa, Nick and fam boarded planes, trains, and automobiles from the east coast to visit this little slice of west coast heaven. The same rocky beach that Lisa once first put her feet in salt water was where her soon-to-be husband saw her in her dress for the first time. Ah jeez… it’s enough to make you feel an emotion.

Ugh. Instagram captions. What the hell?

I've spent countless moments of my life staring at a blank instagram caption box. Try something - delete it. Put a quote in there - delete it. But I had a secret weapon... I'd just hand the phone to my wife. She's is a witty and wise firestorm of a woman and I love her for it. Apparently, so does instagram. Her irreverent, meandering, and poignant-as-hell captions have created a sense of community in our lives so that everywhere we travel, there’s usually someone willing to show us around (not to mention insta alone has literally put thousands of dollars in our bank account). So I made her sit down and explain what goes through her curly little head whenever her thumbs click away at her phone keyboard. Put your email below for her free guide on how to write insta captions that people actually care about and make the whole process (dare we say it) fun.. -Tim
