Like a freaking Dutch painting, but in upstate New York. Maryssa, getting ready to see her manpiece Adam, in one of the most beautiful hotel rooms I’ve ever laid eyes on. And a first handhold from behind the door before they really saw each other– portrait times like these give me goosebumps.  And to all […]

So here’s how a Serbian wedding works: you start with the Skup Svatova, a huge pre-wedding party where the bride’s family takes shots of plum brandy together (see below for the reason we love non-boring people so much, Lauren’s fam is the real deal babies) and Serbian musicians jam out and everyone has a dance […]

HOW can two people could be so g-d adorable and still so laid-back, Megan and Danny, please riddle me this! These two angels got married in our backyard (ok not literally, they actually got married at the Hall at Fauntleroy, but anyone who gets married in West Seattle means we can basically walk to their […]

When I was little I used to put my long nightgowns over my head and pretend they were my hair. My frizzy little mullet was def NOT the silky blonde Barbie mane of my dreams and whenever I had that nightgown on I would sassily toss it around and pretend it was “in my way” […]

If we’ve met, you might know that the only reason we ever leave the house is on the OFF CHANCE that someone will saber a champagne bottle near us so we can revel in the abundant glory of living in a modern era where champagne is accessible and we can drink it out of sharded […]

Hi. FIRST let me get this straight: you can say “Emily” the good old fashioned American way but you have to pronounce “Martin” the way he does and the way Tim and I do when we’re talking amongst ourselves about how much we love them: THE IRISH WAY, “Mairtin.” Oh aye. Don’t say it like […]

We were calling each other our little darlings after one Skype call. Val and Joe and a bop around Georgetown (drinks at Ciudad Georgetown is my new hot tip, ok boozehounds? Just go) and then a wild hare from Tim to drag them to our studio and get some fashion blogger shots. And then we […]

Hello Detroit, city of my photographic dreams. Hello Ford Piquette Plant. Hello incredible microcosm of American history (I seriously could not read enough books about Henry Ford after this weekend). Hello Travis, the sweetest souled man who cried at every corner and hello Heidi, our beloved laid back bride who we’ve adored since the first […]

When we were 24, Kirsten and I came home from dates at the same time and wished on leftover 4th of July sparklers that we would marry the boys we had just gone out with. And I laughed about that moment so many times during her wedding, just giddy that the universe had better men […]

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Claire is the queeeeen. One of our biggest supporters from day one, this girl has a deep and special place in our lives and she ain’t bad in front of the camera NEITHA. So when she got engaged to one of my earliest middle school friends […]

I have a soft spot for my fellow Gig Harborites… two babies who met at Tidefest and spent their early love hanging out at Round Table Pizza (btw the Round Table salad bar is still the greatest ever) and grew into an adult kind of love, the real deal. I’ve said it before and I’ll […]

Seattle, I love you. I love your mountains and your water, your clouds and your drizzle. I love your five hour sunsets and the absolute bounty of ingredients you have in your backyard. I even have a place in my heart for your passive aggression, your inability to zipper merge, your lack of NBA team, […]

Natasha is one of those gals who comes at you with such fierce smarts and get-shit-done-ness that you alllllmost don’t see the sass right away– until she drops a smirky one-liner that will have you laughing for weeks afterwards. When my fellow sassy cynics show up I feel a kindred spirit right away, and working […]

If we made a Venn diagram of the things we love (couples who travel, donuts, good fonts, down to earth families, wild dance floors, anytime someone gets married on Whidbey Island, grooms who cry their whole wedding day, taking photos in cement structures, lowkey weddings that celebrate the lurrrrve and not the pomp and circumstance, […]

Happy Pride Month, you beautiful babies! It’s a crazy backwards world we live in when friends and mentoring clients from all over the country often ask us if we lose followers or clients when we post about our same-sex couples. For many photographers in other areas of the world (including our little pocket of the […]

All Julianne wanted for her Swiftwater Cellars wedding was a snowstorm and a killer party. Mission accomplished. Venue: Swiftwater Cellars Dress: Marcella’s La Boutique See more Swiftwater weddings by Sullivan & Sullivan

Let me paint the picture of an instagram crush I had a couple years ago on two strangers in DC. I didn’t know them (YET) but their dog Ace was twins with our pup, they both looked like models, and they always seemed to be lounging in stylish clothes in front of the sexy brick […]

Hi! You know what I’m reeeeal into? A freaking rose gold wedding dress. And a multicultural wedding at Revolution Brewery in Logan Square, where our dear nuggets Josh and Kierstn were genuinely overjoyed to be getting married (I mean look at their faces! LOVE). Oh, also portraits at the Oak Park Conservatory, because I want […]

OKAY. How many times in life does a couple have the style and chutzpah to have their wedding spread out over an entire city, choosing the best and bombest places to be the backdrops for their day? If anyone could pull it off, it’s our girl Eireann Dolan and her new hub Sean Doolittle.  Their […]

I don’t know how some people DO IT, Y’ALL. I mean, how do you work all night in a demanding medical scene, nap for an hour, and still somehow find the strength to make a few Dark and Stormies at 11 am in your gorgeous Pilsen kitchen?! Sonia and Chris, two Seattle babies who found […]

Ugh. Instagram captions. What the hell?

I've spent countless moments of my life staring at a blank instagram caption box. Try something - delete it. Put a quote in there - delete it. But I had a secret weapon... I'd just hand the phone to my wife. She's is a witty and wise firestorm of a woman and I love her for it. Apparently, so does instagram. Her irreverent, meandering, and poignant-as-hell captions have created a sense of community in our lives so that everywhere we travel, there’s usually someone willing to show us around (not to mention insta alone has literally put thousands of dollars in our bank account). So I made her sit down and explain what goes through her curly little head whenever her thumbs click away at her phone keyboard. Put your email below for her free guide on how to write insta captions that people actually care about.
