Let’s talk FOMO: I don’t have it. I remember very clearly the year I decided to jump off the train of feeling like everything was happening wherever I wasn’t. I was a junior in college, surrounded by options, and realized that I spent every party planning the NEXT party. Switching majors. Wishing I were abroad […]

My grandparents loved Portugal, frequently returning to the sunny charm and accessible beauty of the little country in Spain’s shadow. And when we went in December, I really felt like we were having a VERY similar experience to what they were having in the 70s. In all the best ways. Why haven’t tourists flooded in […]

Some people just have a luminance to them, and nyc photographer carly is no exception We met Carly many moons ago at Josh Wool’s Light Theory workshop in New York. Tim and I decided to get down to brass tacks and be serious about our photography education.  We forked over money we didn’t really have, […]

Hello fellow earthlings. We’ve returned to the blog for the inaugural 2018 post (uhhh whoops) and DO WE HAVE A DOOZY FOR YOU. Jackie and Damian’s wedding in the outer reaches of the wild west for their Montana wedding: we’re talking lightning storms as they ran through fields. We’re talking whiskey-soaked dance parties, a ceremony […]

I listened to an interview recently and the guest ( I can’t remember who it was!) said something to the tune of “the more activities you cram into your world, the slower time goes by. It’s when you don’t do anything at all that time seems to flicker by without you noticing.” I’ve been thinking […]

Two years ago when we dropped it all and left for Thailand, Alana was waiting for us on the other side of the flights with street food and arms flung wide open. She’s lived in Chiang Mai, the darling lil gem of the north, for half a decade now, and the sois and secret spots […]

Oh, this old thing? It’s just a five minute photoshoot with Sarah and Tyson, in between our annual Bastille Day traditions of overeating French food and singing the Marsellaise too loudly after a bottle or two of wine. These guys are the most inspiring humans we’ve ever met. If I could bottle up their exhales […]

If you’re going to careen across the state for a wedding, dear Lord let it be for the world’s chillest couple in the mellow little town where Ray Lamontagne sold his coat. Spokane has the perfect mix of quirky hotels (Kate and Rob’s first look was in the bar at the Historic Davenport— why doesn’t […]

Wandering into the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center is stepping into the modern day ruins of old Texas: all sandy stone and climbing ivy and agave plants, a place to return to again and again as you find new paths and new plants defying the odds; growing sturdily in the Texas heat. New paths every time […]

Sarah’s first email to us felt like a little fairy godmother booped us on the head. She described Davis, her husband-to-be, as “the brightest light I think this world has ever seen,” and anyone who describes their person before they describe their wedding clearly has their priorities straight. Then she told us she was crying […]

When Lina first spotted Brian across the room, she thought: “My dream guy. Tall, dork and handsome.” We started their shoot with champagne at home and ended it on the top of Rattlesnake Ridge (luckily Lina brought exactly four mandarins, which prevented almost sure death on the way up because damn Rattlesnake ain’t joking around) […]

Sometimes we show up for a wedding at a distant Texas ranch, thunder rolling in the distance, and don’t know a soul. And something about the energy as we drive up feels… right. Like things are going to happen just the way they would in your dreams. And thanks to the couple being incredible and down […]

Avid travelers will tell you that you have to take at least four forms of transportation to get anywhere interesting. Simply getting somewhere interesting is one thing, but getting 150 of your nearest and dearest to take the trek with you, now that’s outright audacious. Audacious is a fitting word too, since Ashley and Susana’s […]

“I like the music of his voice.” Texas belle Jessi. On her way to see her French husband to be Baptiste for the first time on their wedding day. We’re in the car murmuring about all the ways that love becomes a little miracle when you had to cross oceans and geography and culture to […]

“Anyone who can leave the Yucatán with indifference has never been an artist and will never be a scholar.” -Claude-Joseph Désiré Charnay, 1863 We were deep inland in the Yucatàn exploring the Spanish colonial streets of Mérida when we were ushered through a back alley, past an outdoor grill filled with smoking chili peppers, through a velvet […]

Well folks, we found out that there are multiple Panama Cities, and that apparently one is in Florida. No offense Floridians, but that’s hard pass when places like Casco Viejo in the ORIGINAL Panama City are up for grabs. Katy and Eric told us they wanted to meet us somewhere in the world this year […]

Ahh, the dulcet tones of the sound of your own voice… yikes. Last autumn, as we were scoping out the Yucatan peninsula for this year’s Moveable Feast, we had the amazing good fortune of appearing on a podcast that is EXACTLY our cup of tequila. The Half Hour Intern (run by our insatiably curious hero Blake Fletcher) […]

When we first dreamed up the idea for Moveable Feast, we KNEW that we had to launch in the south of France. Ah, the olive branches! The patina! The laid back and artistically vibrant history! And most importantly, the chocolate croissants. The hunt began for the right castle (that’s a normal thing to do on […]

“And everyone shall sit under their own vine and fig tree, and no one shall make them afraid. They’ll be safe in the nation we’ve made.” -Lin-Manuel Miranda Happy New Year, friends. The day after the election, the thought of putting on pants seemed like a Herculean task. “What? Go outside? Where there are people? No […]

Is it just me, or does everyone have that Instagram couple they totally crush on? I couldn’t help but adore Katy and Devin from a distance (it’s not weird that we’d never met before, this is the 90s you guys): their sweet posts about each other, their gorge DC brick loft that they seem to […]

Ugh. Instagram captions. What the hell?

I've spent countless moments of my life staring at a blank instagram caption box. Try something - delete it. Put a quote in there - delete it. But I had a secret weapon... I'd just hand the phone to my wife. She's is a witty and wise firestorm of a woman and I love her for it. Apparently, so does instagram. Her irreverent, meandering, and poignant-as-hell captions have created a sense of community in our lives so that everywhere we travel, there’s usually someone willing to show us around (not to mention insta alone has literally put thousands of dollars in our bank account). So I made her sit down and explain what goes through her curly little head whenever her thumbs click away at her phone keyboard. Put your email below for her free guide on how to write insta captions that people actually care about.
